スウェーデンを拠点に2000年から活動していたReinXeedがMajesticaへと改名し、昨年リリースした再デビューアルバム『Above The Sky』はMelodic Power Metalシーンで大きな話題になりました。本作はクリスマスをコンセプトにした作品でありますが、もちろんクリスマスでなくても楽しめるポップなメロディが疾走する素晴らしい作品になっています。
改めてメンバーのおさらいをしますが、ギター/ボーカルは今年Memories of OldでもアルバムをリリースしたSabatonのTommy、ベーシストはAzoria、FuzzgodのChris、ギタリストにAlex Oriz、ドラマーには今年から加入したJoel Kolibergという4人組。ファンタジックなMelodic Power Metalサウンドはキャッチーでポップなものが多いです。
聴き馴染みのあるクリスマスメロディが荘厳に疾走するだけでもちろん最高ですが、各ミュージシャンのテクニックにもフォーカスして楽しむと良いかと思います。この冬じっくり楽しみたい1枚!

前作『Score to a New Beginning』から11年振りのリリースとなった4枚目フルレングスは、Napalm RecordsからMassacre Recordsへと移籍して制作された。2013年にKerionからドラマーJB Polが加入、2015年には同じくKerionのギタリストSylvain Cohen、フォークメタルWind RoseのボーカリストFrancesco Cavalieriが加入した事をきっかけに再び息を吹き返した彼ら。ファンタジックなオーケストレーションは、コンセプチュアルな作風を雄大に仕立て、FrancescoのボーカルもFairylandに上手くフィットしているように感じます。キャリア初？となるミュージックビデオ「Heralds Of The Green Lands」も見ごたえあり。

Rhapsody of Fireで活躍し、現在はAngraに在籍するボーカリストFabio Lioneが在籍する男女混合Symphonic/Melodic Power Metal、Eternal Idolの4年振りとなるニューアルバム。KamelotとRhapsody of Fireをミックスしたような壮大さを持っており、スタンダードなシンフォニックメタルであるが、耳に残るメロディーワークがほどよく織り交ぜられ、引き締まった印象を持つ。前作に在籍していたGiorgia Colleluoriは脱退しているものの、最新ラインナップも凄い。それだけで聴く価値のある1枚。

2017年にイギリスで結成されたニューカマー。注目すべきは2020年に加入したボーカリストTommy Johanssonの存在で、彼はこれまでにMajesticaやSabatonで活動してきた実力派。同時期に加入したギタリストErwin Febriantoを含む5人体制となり、本格的に動き出したと言えるだろう。
本作はバンドのコンポーザー兼ギタリストのBilly Jeffsと、Power Questで活躍したボーカル/ギタリストAlessio Gravelloがプロデュースを務めており、ファンタジックな世界観はPower Questファンならたまらないものがあるだろう。多彩なキーボードワークがファスト/ミドルテンポの楽曲を駆け巡り、まるでRPGの主人公になったかのような気分でアルバムの世界に没入できる。Tommyのボーカルは言わずもがな、今後の活躍に期待!
